Jordan Bach On 5 Ways To Make People Feel Important

I am one of those people who are addicted to self-help books and videos because I believe that they really do help me in taking care of my spirituality and mind-set – two things that are always a work in progress no matter who you are. I follow Jordan Bach on Twitter and YouTube and found his recent video to be such an important piece or tool to keep in mind when interacting with people.

Jordan is to me what I am to my friends – that friend who is always willing to listen and offer guidance, who also happens to be gay. In my interactions with my friends, I have often realised that they do not particularly always need help with whatever situations that they are faced with, but they need to feel validated.

During an episode of the show that I produce (Assertiveness on GauTV) we spoke about friendship and the things that we look for in friends. The above point seemed to be the golden thread for me when looking at why I am friends with the people that I am friends with. They make me feel understood, loved and listened to.

Jordan’s video starts with a quote that invites us to pretend that everyone has a sign on their forehead that says “make me feel important” and he goes on to explain five ways in which we can make people feel important when they come into contact with us.

If you have ever wondered if or how you can be a better friend, sibling, colleague or even parent, watch the video below and share it with as many people as you can.

  1. I need to practice step 5 more especially when I watch someone make decisions I think may not be the greatest. At the end of the day it's their decisions

  2. Okay I know I'm being vain but this man is fiiiiine! He can say my name ANY day. Listen deeply to me any day! Woooh!

  3. Oh Richmond...how I love your article. if only everyone can practice the 5 steps, the world would be a better place. I'm an extrovert and a type A personality kinda girl, learning the skill of listening sincerely has been my battle but I'm greatful to say I am trying and it has helped a lot with my interactions with people.

  4. After exploring a number of the blog posts on your blog, I seriously appreciate your way of blogging. I saved as a favorite it to my bookmark website list and will be checking back soon. Please visit my website too and let me know how you feel.

  5. Had to watch it twice, first time I was just looking at this gorgeous man. These are great, I will practice listening more.

  6. I would like to put together wordpress blog that would allow people to sign up to receive news letters and updates? Do I need to download wordpress to my computer? Is there any pre-made templates for this type?.
